"Average White Band" (conhecida também como "AWB") é uma banda escocesa de funk, soul e R&B que teve uma série de sucessos entre 1974 e 1980. Eles são mais conhecidos por seus
milhões de vendas com a faixa instrumental "Pick Up the Pieces", e seus álbuns "AWB" de 1974 e "Cut The Cake" de 1975. O nome da banda foi inicialmente proposto por "Bonnie Bramlett". Eles influenciaram outros, tais como "Beastie Boys", "TLC", "The Beatnuts", "Too Short", "Ice Cube", "Eric B. & Rakim", "Nas", "A Tribe Called Quest" e até mesmo "Arrested Development".
"AWB" foi formada no início de 1972 por "Alan Gorrie" e "Malcolm Molly Duncan"(Molly), com "Onnie McIntyre", "Michael Rosen (trompete)", "Roger Ball", e "Robbie McIntosh", nessa formação original também se juntou "Hamish Stuart". "Rosen. Duncan e Ball", carinhosamente conhecidos como "The Dundee Horns", estudaram juntos no "Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art" (que agora faz parte da Universidade de Dundee), e foram anteriormente membros da banda prog "Mogul Thrash". "Gorrie" e "McIntyre" tinham sido membros da banda prog "Forever More". "McIntyre" e "McIntosh" foram usados como músicos convidados na gravação de "My Ding-a-Ling" de "Chuck Berry".
"AWB" é funk, soul e R&B, mas os músicos tiveram uma história anterior em bandas progressivas como "Mogul Thrash" e "Forever More" e sempre serão bons instrumentistas, independente do gênero em si, pois boa musica é boa musica
